About Wales
We in Wales notice the million of visitors who come yearly to enjoy our Celtic hospitality and to explore the wild beauty that Wales has to offer, be it in the mountains and quaint valley’s or the many coastal sandy beaches hidden away in mystic bays.
Whatever the attraction a high proportion of these visitors return year after year,
Wales is sometimes referred to as “The Land of Song and Bards”. And if anyone who has attended a National Rugby match at the Arms Park in Cardiff will perhaps still remember the heart raising feeling when the Welsh team scored a try,
There has always been that air of mystery surrounding the Welsh mountains and the dark water lakes nestling in their valleys, and one is often left thinking perhaps the old legends could contain in them some grains of truth.
With an estimated population of around three million, with the majority living in the coastal areas and valleys it is natural that many of the mountain areas and wooded valleys remain unspoilt
The country's rich cultural heritage is evident both in the lyrical language and in the vibrant arts scene, whether it be in the sphere of music, drama, film or arts and crafts.
Wales has three National Parks, the dramatic Alpine peaks of Snowdonia in the north, the Trekkers haven of Brecon Beacons in the south and the coastal splendour of Pembrokeshire in the west.

The Celts
A Celtic heritage has survived in Wales for thousands of years. It has an undeniable resilience, despite the hammer blows dealt by Roman soldiers and, later, Saxon invaders and Anglo-Norman warlords. This heritage has become an indelible part of the Welsh spirit. You can discover more about its roots if you visit places like Castell Henllys in Pembrokeshire, where a reconstructed hillfort provides an insight into Celtic tribal life. Similarly, the Museum of Welsh Life near Cardiff has recreated the typical circular Celtic dwellings that reflect life in the Iron Age.

Celtic Art
It is a common misconception today to attribute pre-Celtic Britain art to the Celts, when in fact many of the elaborate designs were found carved on rocks by an unknown race of people who lived here in Britain thousands of years before the Celtic Culture Arrived.
The Switch, The Two Worlds and the Crescent are Pictish ancient symbols and are found carved into stone in the North East of Scotland, and are Scandinavian in origin.
True Celtic Art which they used to decorate everything around them, came from the trees, birds, animals and what they saw around them, and the British Celts simplified and stylised these patterns.

About my Website
It is not my Intention to create a webside as a tutorial for Welsh History or Culture, As many have done this far better than I could.
Instead I wanted to add a Glimmer of who we Welsh were, and to share with you some beautiful pictures which I think that you will enjoy viewing.
(See my other Photo Pages.)
I would welcome any comments that you would like to make, if you would like to Sign my visitors Book,
Thank you for Visiting
